But Where's the Mouse?
And pornography, Solitaire and John Aravosis' orchid blogging?
The internet is 40 years old this year and I thought it was high time we take a look back and see what "experts" and futurists had in mind for our future when talking about the internet.
Well, we had dials instead of mice, "communal service agencies" instead of the Geek Squad and email written by hand. And all it will take is three monitors and consoles, a printer and an email writing machine. Yes, folks, the internet will be so portable you'll be able to fit all the hardware you need into a single large room!
No shit.

That video was a pretty cool find. I'm a big fan of what I call "retro-futurism"; in fact, I suffer from "retro-futurist nostalgia," meaning that I long for what I used to think the future would be like. Or something.
Wasn't there a description of an Internet-like communications network in Edward Bellamy's "Looking Backward," which was published in 1888 (if I remember correctly)?
I seem to recall as well that Bellamy's book also introduced the term "credit card," as well.
Incidentally, I like the idea of writing e-mail in longhand with a stylus.
