Sleepless in Glendale
This is our last night in Phoenix. The original plan was to be out by this morning but we still have to clean the house before we leave. My roommate rented us a two bed room at the Motel 6 in Glendale. It looks like a former B list movie studio that used to make direct-to-DVD action movies with Nicholas Cage and I can't absolutely swear there isn't at least one dead hooker under one of the beds. The nearly constant sirens give the place a nice urban legend ambience. Let's hope I wake up tomorrow with both my kidneys.
The wifi is passable, although I wouldn't be surprised if hamsters furiously running on wheels was somehow involved. But it's going to kill me that I can't really blog tomorrow on Election Day, considering how important this midterm is (In the Golden Age of Trump, aren't they all super important?).
Coverage will be spotty at best. I just realized that I can post from my phone while we're on the road, so, thank you, Google.
I will say that I think what Haley Stevens did in endorsing the Republican over Dr. El-Sayed in Michigan was the skeeviest thing I've seen a Democrats do since Joe Lieberman and Zell Miller (although John Fetterman's long legs are gaining on her). Seriously, if your fetish for the murderous state of Israel is stronger than your loyalty to your own political party, then it's time to get out of politics.
Pointedly, Stevens' fiance, Jason Turkish, said he was throwing his support behind Mike Rogers because he considers El-Sayed "antisemitic". Frankly, I can't wait until she's out of Congress this January 3rd and is replaced by Jeremy Moss in MI-11.
Even though predictions don't mean much in the grand scheme of things, I'll stand by my belief that Democrats will claw back a significant number of Senate seats and will establish a 4-5 seat majority. There are 20 Republican Senate seats and only 13 Democratic seats in play. Not all those Democratic senators will win reelection. But they should stand to win a little more than they'll lose.
As stated in this blog, there are several Republican seats in red and purple states that are likely, if not sure, to fall to Democrats. Texas, Ohio and Maine are looking more than iffy and Alaska, the Carolinas, Kansas, Iowa and even Mississippi are looking vulnerable. I see Dr. El-Sayed taking Gary Peters' seat in Michigan.
Jon Ossoff is expected to win by a wide margin over GOP rodeo clown Mike Collins (Echelon polling has him up by a whopping 15 points).
Susan "Road Salt" Collins is, to say the least, facing an uphill battle against Troy Jackson, even though he jumped in as a Johnny Come Lately candidate after Graham Platner's spectacular flameout. John Husted, who was appointed to his post by Mike Dewine, is facing some serious headwinds against former Senator Sherrod Brown. And Darline Graham? The only thing that'll get her elected is the collective stupidity of hide-bound Republican South Carolina voters.
Even though the Democrats are fielding some good candidates and incumbents this year, it has to be said that the Democrats' chances of retaking the Senate this year isn't so much predicated on their quality as the GOPs's lack of it. Darline Graham is a fucking idiot, let's face it, Mike Collins is a Bozo and Roger Marshall is a cold-blooded crook.
As for the House? Well, let's say I've just about had it with the mealy-mouthed MSM still saying to this very day that the Democrats might take control of the House. That was set in stone not long after the 2024 election. And if the Democrats don't prevail, and by a wide margin, then that means the Republicans pulled off some serious rat-fuckery. Democrats should command at least a 20 seat majority come tomorrow night.
So, this is ole JP, signing off from Arizona for the final time. I'll try to post tomorrow from my phone. Seeing as how we're traveling across I-10, I'll probably be listening to banjos as I post.
