I Have a Question...
I've been following the Trump indictment shit show about as well as any other political wonk can be expected to. And I've been listening with rapt attention/abject horror. But I've also been waiting to hear someone resolve a question I've had since Jack Smith's investigation began. And I'm not hearing it, so I'll be the first to broach the question:
If Trump gets convicted on any one of the 31 counts under the 1917 Espionage Act, will that automatically strip Trump of his Top Secret security clearance? It's a fair question to ask. After all, if he's convicted under the Espionage Act, then how can the government trust him with classified documents ever again in the event Mordor has its way again and installs him back in the White House?
I'm assuming Trump still has that clearance because every ex-president has the option of seeing the PDB, or the Presidential Daily Briefing, as the current president and, I would imagine, Top Secret info winds up in the PDB.
But if he is stripped of his Top Secret security clearance after a conviction, then that means Trump wouldn't be able to be effective as Commander on Chief (not that he ever was).
In short, if being found guilty of violating the Espionage Act automatically involves revocation of any security clearances necessary to any occupant of the Oval Office, wouldn't that also automatically render null and void any bid for the presidency?

As I understand 30+ years of security briefings there are clearaances (secret, top secret, etc) and there is need to know. You can have clearances up and down both arms but unless you have a need to know you don't see the information. Not sure who decides the need to know on the PDB but I'd bet it is someone at CIA or/and ODNI and I doubt they would show 45 anything more than he could see on MSNBC. And maybe yank his clearance for good measure because nobody has the "right" to a clearance by virtue of their job/position or former position.
Iron City, good points.
