American Psycho 2.0
Politico reports today that Ron DeSantis is not only fading fast on the presidential campaign trail (most polls have him losing to professional criminal defendant Donald Trump by 40 or more points), but that his influence is also fading almost as quickly in the state of which he's the erstwhile governor.
His appointees are getting put on leave and job applicants with ties to DeSantis are getting passed over. His smokeless book burning in Florida is getting serious pushback and his senseless war with Disney is a dog that ain't gonna hunt. Illegally flying migrants to Martha's Vineyard through some shadowy carrier and possibly paying that carrier with Florida taxpayer dollars is getting fresh scrutiny in Texas. Then there's the Tucker Carlson incident in which DeSantis, while having dinner at his house, boorishly kept bragging about his "accomplishments" (listed above) in Florida and kicked one of Carlson's dogs.
And last month, his top donor abandoned him because he finally "woke" up and realized his man is basing his entire quixotic campaign on a four letter word.
Being a major contender for the presidency automatically puts one under a white hot spotlight. DeSantis was able to escape that scrutiny as long as he was just the governor of Florida. But once he hit the campaign trail, people finally began listening to him and they quickly realized that he's a pure sociopath.
So's Trump, who at least has some crude, demonic charisma about him to which MAGAts respond. But DeSantis leaves people cold because he insults voters, he insults children, he insults reporters, he insults everyone who disagrees with him and his policies. He doesn't even thank donors who give him large sums of money. He even had an Arthur Fleck moment in Iowa last May that had to be seen and heard to be believed.
If we lived in a sane and just world, this will be the beginning of the end of DeSantis' foray into the political arena and he will get voted out of office next time he's up for re-election. But, if Florida teaches us anything on a daily basis, it's still Florida.
