Quote of the Day
"America loves 'winners'. You can be a porn-star banging golfer, gambling basketball player who gets his father killed because of debts or a rapist boxer who eats human ears. Bottom line is that if you can deliver wins, people will be fascinated by you and give you respect. This is why it was so central to the Republicans to defeat Obama on healthcare, not because of its contents but because of its symbolic meaning." - Stratfor, a right wing think tank, in 2008.

Re: winners
This is a Vonnegut quote at the beginning of "Galapagos."
"You come from a long line of persistent swimmers. Champions, every one."
I always mangle the quote from memory...so here's the real deal.
"My boy," he said, "you are descended from a long line of determined, resourceful, microscopic tadpoles-- champions every one.”
― Kurt Vonnegut, Galápagos
And this one for good measure. Totally applies today.
“It pains me even now, even a million years later, to write about such human misbehaviour.
A million years later, I feel like apologizing for the human race. That’s all I can say.”
― Kurt Vonnegut, Galápagos
