Oh, the Projection is Strong With This One.

 

     “Look what happened to our Country when a Crooked Moron became our ‘President!’" -"President" Donald J. Trump

     Yeah, we are looking. How can we not? About one third of the White House is now a pile of rubble, American farmers haven't sold a single soybean to China this year, tariffs are making the price of everything skyrocket, the government is in its second-longest shutdown, making federal employees work for free with no guarantee of getting back pay. Trump is trying to bail out Argentina to the tune of $40 billion while American farmers and cattlemen are left to twist in the wind. 

     People live in fear of getting pulled out of their homes, jobs and cars by sadistic masked goons pretending to be law enforcement. People are losing their food assistance next month, including me, and about 20,000,000 Americans will see their health insurance premiums double or more. And Republicans couldn't care less.

     I'm leaving out a ton of other forms of devastation because I don't think one person can catalogue every crime against this country in the last nine months committed by this "crooked moron".

     I keep going back to that famous Maya Angelou quote: "When someone shows you who they are, believe them." Trump promised us last year that he'd be a dictator on Day One. Then, after stealing the 2024 election with Elon Musk's help, he even said that America wants a dictator. Then he set about showing us what that entailed.

     He's invaded four cities, including DC, and he's now got his sights set on San Francisco. He's already bombed nine boats off the coasts of Venezuela and Colombia, killing scores of people. Now he's making noises about sending boots on the ground in Venezuela, obviously with the intention of robbing them of their oil (Operation Iraqi Liberation, anyone?).

     And, because Trump has dick-slapped all the tech moguls into submission, Bezos' Washington Post is little more than a right wing rag, Zuckerberg's Facebook is a Neo Nazi sewer and Musk's Twitter? Are you serious?

      Trump's agenda is obvious to anyone with a working eyeball- He's cozy with dictators, Nazis and human rights abusers while cracking down on critics and Socialists. He just slapped an additional 10% tariff on Canada because the Ontario premier showed an old video of Ronald Reagan from 1987 inveighing against retaliatory tariffs.

     There's zero chance for any remedies. Impeachment and the 25th amendment are pipe dreams. Even the federal courts when they rule against Trump have no enforcement mechanism and he flouts court orders with impunity. And even if Trump finally shows some consideration and turns into a bloated rotting corpse, the sinister hillbilly JD Vance is waiting in the wings.

     It looks more and more as if the American people will have to bail themselves out. But what can we hope to do when the military is, for now, on Trump's side? The No Kings protests made for nice copy but can anyone say that it'd changed anything?

     All we can do is hope that somehow, against all reason, we survive this fascist takeover of our government, our society, and make wiser choices in future elections.

     But Republicans have a plan for that, too. Red states are gerrymandering their congressional districts mid decade with the naked intention of stealing seats from Democrats because they know they can't legitimately maintain a congressional majority. Trump is threatening to send DOJ officials to polling places in California and elsewhere in an effort to intimidate voters. The old voter suppression tricks are already back in play and today, in his panicked Truth Social post, Trump vows to get rid of early voting and mail in ballots.

     Which he doesn't have the authority to do. If his mind wasn't crumbling to dust through dementia, he'd know that our elections are governed by all 50 states plus its territories, not the federal government.

     We were in a similar predicament between 2017-2021. As is inevitable with modern Republican administrations, the economy was flushed down he toilet, America lost 2.9 million jobs, and we, somehow, weathered the deadliest pandemic in a century and the government's non-response to it.

     But this... this is different and much, much worse. And, I'll be honest with you, guys- It's difficult to see how we'll survive this shitshow that the Republicans are putting us through. Only blind faith in the indestructibility of our Republic sustains us but Trump and the Republican Party are seriously hammering away at it and it's only a matter of time before that armor cracks and falls away.
