Cry Harder, Losahs
My martini glass isn't full.
The ketchup on the walls of the White House must be an inch thick. Zohran Mamdani won his race for mayor of New York, Mikie Sherrill won her gubernatorial race in New Jersey and Abigail Spanberger won hers in Virginia and State Sen. Ghazala Hashmi won the Lt. Governor's race. Democrats also retook the House of Delegates and, in the only only ballot not on the east coast, California passed Proposition 50. Democrats also did well in minor races in Pennsylvania and Georgia. Not a single one of these outcomes is surprising to anyone except to the mainstream media.
It may be a bit of a slippery slope to claim that this presages a Blue Wave a year from now. A year is an eternity in political time but one thing is clear: It's not looking good for the Fourth Reich.
However... Yes, there's always a however... The major polling companies appended questions to their exit polls. The questions, of course, varied from place to place but one fact is clear- Americans are not happy with the fascist junta currently masquerading as leadership in Washington. We're seeing dissatisfaction and buyer's remorse.
It was the GOP's misfortune that tonight's elections perfectly dovetailed into a government shutdown now in its fifth week and right after 42,000,000 lost their SNAP assistance and will not get for the foreseeable future. The Trump administration is still stubbornly refusing to disburse them even after two court orders told them to do so in Massachusetts and Rhode Island.
Tonight's off-year elections aren't and shouldn't be considered a bellwether for next year's midterms. But consider a few facts: When Mikie Sherrill won tonight, she took five counties that were allegedly won by Trump last year. Virginia's Democratic candidates pulled off a clean sweep and performed better than they had since 1989. And California's Prop 50, which literally started out as a bluff, also won big, by about 30 percentage points.
Prop 50 will suspend the nonpartisan election board temporarily so they can take back the five seats stolen by Texas earlier this year.
This proves the political adage that when Democrats come out to the polls, they win. Let's hope this translates to many more Democratic victories a year from now.
