Dan Froomkin Fired From Wa Po.com

In a move sure to please Republicans and to set the left blogosphere in flames, Dan Froomkin, the popular columnist who blogged about the White House, was just a couple of hours ago shitcanned from the WaPo's online edition. For years, Froomkin's blog, White House Watch, was consistently one of the most popular features of the paper's online persona yet that wasn't good enough.

He'd been publicly criticized by ombudsman Deb Howell back in 2005 who suggested (and ultimately got her way) that "White House Briefing", the original title of Froomkin's blog, be removed. Charles Krauthammer, a man who has been wrong in his own empire-loving column more times than a stopped clock, called him "stupid." For quite a while now, Froomkin's own newspaper had accused him of being too "liberal".

This is a pretty sinister development coming out of a newspaper that still employs GOP shills like Howell and Krauthammer but the fact that Froomkin's blog was one of the most popular of all their online bylines plus the public criticism of one of their own makes this all the more sinister.

E. J. Dionne, watch your back. The Devil roams...

Even with Dan on board, the WaPo was pretty shitty. Now, it's completely shitty.

What need of Froomkin? The Post hired Ezra Klein so that it had an Obama friendly up-and- comer as an in-house Progressive blogger and how many Progressive bloggers does a paper need? Klein's talent is that he is ever at the ready to make those creative double-bank shot excuses for the ever rightward drifting administration.

Apparently, you've already forgotten the part where I said that Froomkin's byline was one of the most popular, if not the most popular.

Froomkin is true to his ethics and not a shill for corporate Republicrat propaganda. We need reporters like I.F. Stone and all the Post has are spineless hacks. The paper can't fold fast enough for my tastes.

Froomkin wasn't a shill for Obama. He has held his feet to the fire, as well as Bush's.

That is why the Republicans are stupid to want him gone.

True, Lisa. He'd been taking potshots at Obama, lately. I follow his blog, too.
