Hell is Already Here With Its Bony Feet on Our Desk
Maybe he's right, maybe he isn't. But don't forget, Ackman's the one who lost a billion on Herbalife while Trump's buddy Carl Icahn made a billion on it. But Ackman's missing the big picture.
He's concerned about saving the economy. We need to save the people because the people ARE the economy. I don't know what he means about "shutting down the country" because America isn't a Mom and Pop drug store or a hot dog wagon. It's a nation of a couple of hundred million workers and tens of thousands of companies large and small. Shutting down the country isn't the answer. Goods and services still have to be provided, money has to be made, people have to pay their bills. And a blanket moratorium on creditors collecting on those debts cannot last forever. A $1000 check will not cover those expenses nor can Uncle Sam afford to turn this entire country into a welfare state.
As much as I hate to say it, Trump's idea of the $1.2 trillion stimulus package and Invoking the Defense Production Act of 1950 is a step but just a step in the right direction. Even such a
massive infusion of cash would have short-term salutary effects only.
And even the $1000 checks Mnuchin is talking over with Congress will
take months to get to us (When Bush's 2008 stimulus package was signed
into law it still took two months for those $300 & $600 checks to
get into the mail.).
We need to keep this country open for business, within reason and while seriously addressing public health precautions.
