You
know, the last thing anyone should do is turn this horrible natural
disaster into a political issue. But it has to be said that this
invariably happens time and again when you elect Republicans. Time and
again, they have proven to be completely worthless when leadership is
needed the most. What this shows is that Republicans are great at
deporting people in other states but are useless in evacuating people in
their own state when disaster strikes.
We saw it during Katrina and in its aftermath and we're seeing it again 17 years later after Ian. The Bush administration turned New Orleans into a rancid Petri dish of heartless, opportunistic disaster capitalism. Watch for DeSantis to push for tax cuts for businesses to "help them get back on their feet" while everyday Floridians are left standing in the sewage and wreckage of their homes. Watch DeSantis reject federal aid just because Biden's in charge. Either that or he'll gladly take the disaster funds then misappropriate it for his fascist agenda.
But, this being an election year, never let it be said DeSantis isn't standing front and center and assigning responsibility squarely where it belongs- On the media. Yes, DeSantis is now blaming the media for the decisions he made, or didn't make, despite the fact that hurricanes are notoriously unpredictable. Now he's trying to say Lee County wasn't even in the cone of the hurricane.
