Once Again, With Feeling...
...we were right, the Republicans were wrong.
Looks like for the umpteenth time, George W. Bush has had to see things the Democrats' way, this time about the auto bailout that's been blocked by Senate Republicans. The White House is now reconsidering the Democratic leadership's idea of letting the Big Three tap into TARP, or the $700,000,000,000 bailout package for financial institutions.
OK, Republicans, let's follow the bouncing ball so you can keep up with the rest of the class:
If Democrats tell you that a bailout is a necessary evil in order to save American jobs, listen to them. If Barack Obama says that a 16 month withdrawal timetable would be the best one, listen to him. Do not play political brinksmanship and let things get to a point where it may be too late to salvage. Because the grownups are now...
Oh, wait, I forgot, these are Republicans we're talking about, people who are so shit stupid and entrenched in doing things the Grand Old Way that they can't think outside their ideological box.

Yeah, and Republicans in the south with non-union auto workers to control (Japanese German and Korean automaker plants)
What Nunya said! It's the Civil War 2.0. Southern Republicans try to destroy the industrial base of the North and impoverish the states that sent so many of their sons to stomp out slavery 150 years ago. Perhaps by pitting one region against the other, Shelby et. al. will succeed in finally breaking up the "United" States and they can form their own nation. It will be the Confederate Sharecroppers of America, sharecropping for German auto plants, farms owned by their new Chinese masters and providing honey-talking blonde prostitutes to oil shiekhs. But there will be a thin upper class of rich people like Shelby, and the dumbasses will be able to say "Yeehaw! We finally won the Civil War" and that will make up for the pellagra.
The GOP plan is to intentionally destroy America. By Occam's Razor, it's the only explanation that fits all the parameters. This has nothing to do with partisan politics.
And I agree with Anonymous. With the rise of Reagan and the Know-Nothing GOP representing the Southern Way of Life, I say the South has almost won Civil War 2.0.
Here in Vermont we now have NASCAR, 'country' music, and 'pro' wrestling, southern inventions all. 30 years ago, all of those things were a joke. But now they are so serious people fight over them.
