A Good Time Had by All
Mark Twain once famously said, "If you don't like the weather in New England... wait a minute." That's never been truer than today. After one of the most violent lightning storms in recent memory early this morning, the annual Hudson Community Fest went off without a hitch.
The lead picture was taken by me on the "Happy Wagon", kiddie cars strung together and pulled by a John Deere riding mower. It's actually a lot more fun than you think.
Mrs. JP, in her Red Sox finery, was sitting directly behind me and praying she wouldn't fall out during our driver's tacking and U-turns.
We passed corporate rival icons Mickey and Elmo.
Among the many booths offering their wares was this sign that I snapped a picture of in honor of one of my favorite bloggers, Busted Knuckles (Ornery Bastard).
Included with our many acquisitions was this tee shirt that I simply had to have. At the risk of sounding like a right winger, truer words were never spoken. For good measure, I also got a dream catcher at the same booth.
Then, as if heaven couldn't afford any more forbearance, the skies opened up just minutes before the end of the festival at four. It's now 5 o'clock and it's as sunny as can be. It's funny how the older Mark Twain's words get, the truer they seem.

One of my Twain favorites: "Age is an issue of mind over matter. If you don't mind, it doesn't matter."
The older I grow the more this rings true.
I, too, am learning -- to my regret -- that in this, as in much else, Twain spoke the unadorned truth.
Sigh Time, the subtle thief of youth....
On another topic -- I love the Indian t-shirt. If there is any group that is fully and completely entitled to despise the U.S. government....
Oh, man, can't you filch that sign and send it to Busted? It's so perfect for him in so many ways...
I was seriously thinking of buying it for $15 then I heard the booth operator complaining on his cell phone about people taking pictures of his signs without his permission as if I wasn't even there. So I just said "Fuck it" and left.
Damn dude, thanks for thinking of me and for the kind words.
Love that shirt. Have seen variations on it; "Original Homeland Security", "Would have wanted Border Control too", and a couple that disparaged Native Americans to maybe make a point saying, "Quitters" and "Pussies".
This was I think meant to contrast with the Palestinians who haven't yet knuckled under. It is in no way accurate however in that I believe it is the Lakota Sioux who have never agreed to any treaty taking their land, nor have they accepted any reparations, and the concept itself was needlessly cruel in that continuing the fight would have meant total annihilation.
