Let's Judge This Book by Its Cover

What you see here is an actual photograph taken of a Coral Gables, FL Barnes & Noble storefront. Some customer who fancied himself a wag stuck in the middle of the Obama book display a book with a chimp on the cover. Neither the chain nor the store management had absolutely anything to do with this. So, Reverend Al, call off your dogs.

But it only goes to show you that idiotic stereotypes die hard, especially south of the Mason Dixon line. It ought to be noted that the book about simians that was inserted by this customer into a display meant to honor President Obama's historic inauguration didn't receive a complaint for days.

More details can be found at The Defenders Online's official website.

When Barack came up here to Canada the other week, the security surrounding him was beyond words. One only needed to view film footage of his unexpected stop at an Ottawa market to see the massive police presence that took place outside the store. It was basically wall to wall cops.

I found this typical, but somewhat overdone considering the approval rating for Obama within Canada is basically unmatched anywhere outside of the US.

The greatest threat to the US President lies not in some international country, but within his own borders.

But of course, all those cartoons and photoshops of Bush as a chimp were fine, just fine.
Double standard much?

All right, you made me confess. When Vince Bugliosi came out with his book on indicting Bush for murder, I was amazed that the B/N (near DC) didn't have it on the front table as a featured item. People here despise Bush and are smart enough to read and recommend the book. Good capitalism and politics, for once, meet. I ask for the book and it's back in the opinion section, just north of astrology.

I decided to act. Every time I went to B/N (weekly during this period), I 'd go get one of the three on the shelf in the back and put Vince front and center in a stand with the other Times top 10 books (Vince was up there at the time). This went on for six weeks at least.

Now that I got that off my chest, the photograph opening this entry reveals a truly weak and twisted mind. After destroying the country, what do the fascists have left? Cheap and weak racist jibes and Rush ("Oxy") Limbaugh.

How ironic that it is in Florida, a state that both Bush pols drove to the point of a 50,000 home foreclosure a month rate as of January 2009.

So JP, your old friend Lanz has a blog! Who knew? Who cared? I find it interesting that his latest post praises Sarah McHuntress not for anything she did, but because she irritates the Left. Typical Repiglickin' -- "I don't care whether anything good happens; I just want to piss off you Lefties." If you and Lanz were standing in a house filled with spilt petrol, he'd be happy to light a match, just because you'd hate to be burnt alive.

There -- I looked at his blog so you don't have to! That's in appreciation for how much you plumb through the sewers of Right-wing Slimetopia, thereby saving me the agony.

As long as we're confessin', I'll admit that on one occasion at B & N, I put some wingnut ideologue's 500 pages of toilet paper right where it belonged - on the FICTION table.

Thinking more about what I just wrote, I believe I should have moved the piece to the restroom.

I "praised" Sarah Palin? Wow, you must have read something other than what I wrote . . .

When will people get smart and not disrespect the office of President of out United States of America. As a veteran I find that disrespect is on the way up. Look at the way that the same type of thing was done to Bush. I don't agree with all the decisions but he doesn't make choices by himself. It's like running and business and having to take the burden of not always being right. Some of our citizens need to bone up on our great country and thank God that we are living in a great county....
