Open Thread
We need a palate cleanser especially after last night's boondoggle over a primary in South Carolina. So Mrs. JP and I are going out to watch the Patriots advance to the Super Bowl over the broken bodies of the Baltimore Ravens.
Yeah, I know, the Ravens have always benefited from a stellar defense while the Pats' own D was ranked 31st out of 32 this year. But look at what our defense has done of late and when you have the best quarterback in the NFL and two of the best tight ends in the NFL, no defense scares you. hell, offensive coordinator Bill O'Brien's probably even more scared filling the big shoes of the late Joe Paterno at Penn State.
So consider this an open thread, thoughts on the NFL post season, etc.

Looks like we might actually disagree on something after tonights Giants/Niners game. I may have to burn some candles and flog myself with a cat o'nine tails as atonement for my excess of schadenfreude when New England beat Jesus of the Rockies last weekend. As I just posted at B@B, there are two tragedies in life -- one is not getting what you want, and the other is getting it (New England beating the Broncos).
Jill, I love excitement when watching sports but I, for one, do not have the stomach to see a Pat/Giants Super Bowl rematch. I'm still recovering from the first one.

Holy shit, dude! You called it.
Of course I did. They're the Pats.
See youse all in Indianapolis, next week, Patriots fans... I'm an old NY GIANTS fan, since around 1957, and I'm still re-living & loving the whopping we gave to Tom Brady & his gang 4 years ago. Should be a great game, February 5th....
You have a strange definition of the word "whopping", since the Pats led throughout the whole game until Eli completed that Hail Mary pass in the last 45 seconds. This will be a different outcome.
My rich cousin Jim has a Pat's box. Lucky ass him. I, on the other hand, am nothing more than a long suffering Kansas City Chiefs fan stuck between the hell of the Philadelphia Eagles (hide your beagle, Vick's an Eagle) and the Gints and the Jets. Bleah, as Snoopy would say. However, since my mother was born in Boston and my grandmother had 13 brothers and sisters and I am defacto related to half the city (the Irish/Italian half), I must root for the Pats. That, and the Eli Manning annoys the bejesus out of me.
off topic but remember you writing about this sad story

How the heck can you find Eli Manning annoying? He may remind you of Dukakis in the tank with his little head in a big helmet, but he's about as unassuming a QB as you're likely to find.
