The Most Sickening, Heart-rending Video You'll Ever See
I never knew about this. I love egg salad but I'll gladly never eat even cage free eggs again after seeing this. Grinding up living male chicks is actually an industry standard.
Fuck these bastards. I'll boycott eggs until this practice is ended. Who else is in?

Count me in.
Me too.
I'm in.
Uh, no. Not the "most sickening, Heart-rending video" I've ever seen. Indeed, to anyone who ever seriously reflected for several minutes on the material means of production of food, particularly chicken, pork and beef, in the U.S., these images would hardly be surprising.
For the most part, the primary reason why these images might be regarded as shocking to adults is because those adults suffer from the widely distributed plague of intentional ignorance.
Personally, every person who consumes poultry, pork or beef (for starters) should be required to kill and butcher such an animal at least once.
Howyadoin', Pal?
Not me. Unless you're willing to give up eating meat and dairy altogether, what happens on the production end is always a Godawful mess of stuff you never want to see. And even if you're a vegetarian, you may reconsider if you ever see what happens to small mammals caught in the path of a thresher or combine harvester. Nature is red in tooth and claw, we're a part of nature. This is one case where the smart answer is to just try not to think about it.
Just realized that Harv got there ahead of me.
What do you propose should be done instead with male chicks (which are economically valueless -- cannot even be given away) ?
I believe in England they first gas the male chicks (well not actually gas, just put them in an enclosed space and then remove the oxygen so they faint before dieing.) Only after that they are run through the grinder for processing into "food product."
If you really do love your eggs, rescue a Battery Hen, they'll give you many good years and tons of eggs.
Hey Irritated Professor:
Just try not to think about it?? That's right, just stick your head in the sand. Why should YOU have to take any responsibility for your own actions? And gawd forbid you should have to look at something unpleasant!
Besides, all that matters is what you want to stuff your face with at any given moment, right?
Oh, and one of my favorites: The "nature is inherently cruel and we're part of nature" argument. Animals that kill in the wild must do so to survive. It is instinctual behavior for them, and they lack the ability to make other choices - unlike humans. Humans survive and thrive just fine without eating animals or their eggs. While that undoubtedly had survival value in the past, in our culture today such products are causing an epidemic of disease and early death.
And since when do we base our behavioral standards on those of the animal kingdom??
It's interesting that when folks like you want to justify their treatment of other sentient beings, it's usually the "humans are special, unique, big-brained, divinely-inspired beings" crap. Yet when convenient, suddenly you're just one of the creatures, eh? Ironic. And not even close to a rational argument.
The feathers, too?
Gawd.
